Blast Off for Durham Physics Rocket Scientist!
(21 January 2013)
1st year Durham Physics undergraduate Ioana Ciuca and fellow students from the Polytechnic University of Bucharest, Romania, have been successful in having a project selected to fly on the 2014 REXUS rocket launch. Their proposal, to study the laser welding of metals in micro gravity, was chosen by a panel of experts at ESA’s ESTEC during December. Ioana is delighted and is looking forward to attending a one week training course for the mission at the DLR German Aerospace Centre, Oberpfaffenhofen, in February. Her career in Physics is certainly off to a flying start!
