Two Physics postgraduate students awarded prestigious thesis prizes by publisher Springer
(18 July 2012)
Two recent postgraduate students in the Department of Physics, Elise Jennings and Jonathan Pritchard, have had their PhD theses chosen for publication in the prestigious Springer Theses series and each has also received an associated cash prize of €500.
Both Elise Jennings’ thesis ‘Simulations of dark energy cosmologies’ and Jonathan Pritchard’s thesis ‘Cooperative Optical Non-Linearity in a Blockaded Rydberg Ensemble’ can be accessed on the Springer web site at http://www.springer.com/series/8790.
Nominated and endorsed by two recognized specialists, each thesis was chosen by Springer for its scientific excellence and impact on research. For greater accessibility to non-specialists, the published versions include an extended introduction, as well as a foreword by the student’s supervisor explaining the special relevance of the work for the field.
