Astronomy Seminar Baojiu Li (Cambridge, DAMTP): N-body simulations for scalar-field theories

20th October 2010, 16:30 to 17:30, OC 218

N-body simulations for scalar-field theories In this talk I discuss the applications of N-body simulations to the scalar-field related theories to study their predictions about the structure formation. In contrast to previous studies, the simulations here explicitly solves the scalar field and computes any extra force it produces. The result shows that in many cases the approximation that the fifth force is proportional to gravity as adopted in the literature is a poor one. The cosmological observables which are of interests, such as the matter power spectrum, mass function, formation and evolution of halos and voids, halo density profiles and halo scalar-field profiles are discussed as well.
