The Faulkes Telescope Project aims to provide schools with access, via the Internet, to research class optical telescopes enabling schoolchildren to make astronomical observations direct from the classroom.

A key activity of the outreach programme is to establish a regional Faulkes Telescope Centre for which we have already secured, as a gift, the required computing resources from Sun Microsystems worth around £30,000. The Physics Department of the University of Durham is providing space, which will become the Faulkes classroom. In addition, the outreach project is a fully paid up member of the National Schools Observatory programme.
