Congregation (Graduation)

Congregation will be the climax of your son or daughter's time at Durham University. It is a gathering of members and friends of the University to witness and celebrate the conferring of degrees. The ceremonies are held in Durham Cathedral with related activities for graduates and their guests (such as gown hire, assembly for the procession and photography) taking place in the surrounding buildings on Palace Green.

Graduates wear the robes appropriate to their degree. These can be either bought or hired in advance.

In addition to the graduation ceremony itself, many colleges and departments also arrange receptions or celebrations.
