An introduction to the life of the Buddha and the spread of Buddhism

Presenting the story of the birth and life of Siddhartha Gautama, later recognised as the Buddha, and the early spread of Buddhism in South Asia. This exhibition draws from the outstanding collections of the Oriental Museum, the Victoria & Albert Museum, and the British Museum, complemented by stunning contemporary images by National Geographic photographer, Ira Block.

It is linked to the Durham University directed UNESCO excavations at the World Heritage Site of Lumbini, Nepal - the birthplace of the Buddha.

The Dunelm Gallery

The Dunelm Gallery is located on the ground floor of Palace Green Library and opened in summer 2012. The opening of the Dunelm Gallery is a milestone in the University’s £10 million development project at Palace Green Library.
