Durham Charity Challenge

(14 November 2005)

Last Wednesday night (09/11/05), around 3000 Durham Students packed into Durham Rugby Ground to support the University's first XV take on Nottingham in a top of the table BUSA clash.

The event, now in its 3rd year, raises money for Sport in Action Zambia; Team Durham's Charity, and has established itself as having one of the biggest crowds for any game outside the Zurich Premiership. Once again we had an exceptional turnout and lots of great entertainment. The game itself was a close affair with Nottingham taking the lead with an early try. Durham scored several penalties to bring the team back into contention and then into the lead. A last gasp effort from Nottingham gave a late try and although the conversion was missed, this allowed them to go into the lead and hold on for the victory. The final score was 17-15 to Nottingham. This was the first time Durham had lost the Charity Challenge, having wins against Northumbria and Nottingham in the past. Source: SportDurham.co.uk 10/11/05
