A double first for Knowledge Transfer Partnerships?

A Knowledge Transfer Partnership awarded to Durham has the distinction of being the first KTP approved with an Anthropology Department in the country and the first to involve Northern Way Funding. The KTP, with North Tyneside Primary Care Trust, will be evaluating the impact of Healthy Living Centres on people's behaviour and investingating the most effective ways of influencing locals to change their lifestyle.

The Medical Anthropologists in Durham are currently researching culturally compelling health initiatives. What is culturally compelling? For example, we all know smoking is bad for us but that knowledge alone is not enough to make us stop. Being forced to stand outside in the rain because you can no longer smoke in the restaurant is culturally compelling. Professor Catherine Panter-Brick has secured £113,702 to carry out the two year project, jointly funded by Northern Way, ESRC and North Tyneside PCT.
