Subject Difficulties at GCSE

(4 April 2006)

New research by Dr Robert Coe, Director of Secondary Projects at the CEM Centre, shows the relative difficulties of different grades in different subjects at GCSE.

Dr Coe analysed a national dataset of over 600,000 students to compare the grades achieved in each subject with the grades achieved by the same student in their other subjects. Some subjects do come out as apparently 'harder' than others, though it makes a difference which grade you look at. And of course there may be reasons other than subject difficulty for different levels of performance in certain subjects. Please follow the link for a copy of the Report.
