Departmental away day gets staff in gear for RAE 2008
(28 March 2006)
A recent Law department away day has given staff the information they need for a successful 2008 RAE campaign.
The event held at Lumley Castle was organised by the department to discuss their progress in preparing for the RAE exercise so far, in the context of the University’s preparation for RAE 2008. The event also gave the opportunity to enhance future research opportunities for individuals, centres and the Law Department as a whole. The away day was also used as a platform to launch the Law Department's new Research Handbook. The book provides important guidance for members of staff on issues ranging from publications, research and travel expenses and internal funding to small grants, conferences and networks, research leave, fellowships and project grants, research centres and programmes and visitors and exchanges. Speakers on the day included Professor James Stirling, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research, Ian Broadbridge from the Arts and Humanities Research Council, Dajana Dzanovic from REDSS, and Celia Wells, the Chair of the RAE Panel for Law. Other invited guests included the Vice-Chancellor, Sir Kenneth Calman and Professor Robert Allison. Presentations were also given by various members of the Law Department on matters including the RAE strategy, funding applications and publishing.
