University and City of Durham offer land for sale

(22 March 2006)

The University and the City of Durham are jointly offering a piece of land for sale for future development close to the city centre.

The site is bordered Territorial Lane, Elvet Waterside, the riverbank and racecourse, and the backs of property on Old Elvet. The two partners are conscious that this represents a very significant development opportunity for a city centre location, and have drawn up careful requirements and conditions for the bids by prospective buyers. These cover the type and scale of new buildings, landscaping and the visual impact on the surrounding area. They will replace current car-parks and ageing buildings. There are already plans for a new swimming pool in another part of the city centre, and officers from the City of Durham and the University are supporting the Playgroup in finding new premises. Further information in a special City of Durham newsletter.
