Visiting Professor dies

Durham University can confirm that a visiting professor from China died suddenly in the early hours of Saturday morning (18 FEB 06) at University Hospital in Durham after collapsing at his accommodation in the city on Friday evening. Professor Jikang Zhang, Head of Fudan University's Centre for European Studies arrived in Durham on 26 January and was visiting Durham Business School to further collaboration between the two institutions and to prepare for an international conference in May on European Financial Markets to be held at Fudan University in Shanghai. Three members of staff from the Business School, Dr Zhichao Zhang, Dr Gioia Pescetto and Professor Tony Antoniou, Dean of the Business School, were with Professor Zhang when he died. The University has informed the Chinese Embassy and offers its condolences to Professor Zhang's family and to colleagues at Fudan.
