Sporting Achievement

(15 February 2006)

There has been a range of sporting successes recently, with match-winning and Loughborough being strong features in Durham’s latest sporting activity.

Amazing hockey, fencing and lacrosse matches have all resulted in great wins, especially those over Loughborough. Followed by fantastic achievements in rugby and rowing including two Durham rugby students who took centre stage playing for England students against Wales. With Alistair Simmie scoring the opening try followed by a remarkable five tries by Tom Malaney. Durham was also represented by Grey Irvin (Grey College) in the English students side against Italy U25’s; despite being beaten Greg received praise from the England students manager for playing so well. Megan Grey (St Hild and St Bede college) won the Novice Singles event in rowing, a great achievement for a fresher rower.
