Jennie stares danger in the face

(14 October 2005)

Durham Psychology student, Jennie Cottle, returns from an African adventure to raise money for an AIDS charity.

Jennie set off on her fundraising mission in August, the 20-year-old managed to raise £2,000 from car boot sales and scarecrow competitions. She also canoed 230km along the Zambezi river to raise more money, and despite the obvious dangers she claims the voyage was unforgettable.

The Simalelo Aids Peer Education Programme, a charity based in Zambia which is designed to educate people, also benefited from Jennie’s trip. She worked closely with the project in remote villages, trying to get the anti aids message across but she admits there were many obstacles in the charity’s path.

The money raised will go towards the construction of a new building in the capital of Lusaka which will help to coordinate the charity’s efforts.
