Chancellor Bryson celebrates Durham University honours
(3 October 2005)
Chancellor of Durham University Bill Bryson has sent his congratulations on the being dubbed University of the Year title by the Sunday Times.
The accolade was granted as part of the paper’s annual University Guide which presents profiles and a league table of characteristics to help future students with their applications.
Durham gained the title for its improvement and performance over a number of years and for being highly regarded in surveys of students, schools and academics around the country. The University regained its position in the top 10 of the Sunday Times’ own table – up two places to 9th.
Bill Bryson, who conferred degrees for the first time at Durham in June, said : "I couldn't be more delighted. Durham clearly is an exceptional institution and it is wonderful to see that so generously recognised."
