Heritage Open Day for University Office

(9 September 2005)

The University Office is again opening its doors for the annual national Heritage Open Day which gives the public a chance to see historic or architectural features that are not normally on general view.

Old Shire Hall was built for Durham County Council in 1898 and included a rich mix of traditional and modern techniques and materials, including stained glass, tile-work and plaster mouldings. The Heritage Day tours include the corridors, staircases and meeting rooms. They include the former Council Chamber preserved in its original Victorian state and now used for meetings of the University Senate.

The guided tours are on Saturday 10 September. Places are limited to 30 per tour at the following times: 10.30am, 11.15am, 12 noon and 12.45pm.
