Nicola DePaola

I am delighted to inform you that Nicola DePaola, who will graduate this summer with a PhD from Earth Sciences, has been awarded the Fearnsides Prize for 2005.

A national prize given each year by the Yorkshire Geological Society. The award is made annually to an Earth Scientist under the age of 30 for excellence in published research.

Nic carried out his PhD studying the relationships between basement reactivation, oblique tectonics and inversion events in sedimentary basins under the supervision of Professor Bob Holdsworth and Dr Ken McCaffrey in the Department of Earth Sciences.

He will receive £100 from the President at the Society's annual meeting to be held in York this December. Nic is currently starting a postdoctoral position at the University of Perugia in his native Italy.
