Business School spreads learning far and wide

The Medium Enterprise Development team at Durham Business School is celebrating after landing two prestigious overseas contracts.

The first, to provide executive education programmes to high-flying managers in Jordan, is worth £125,000. Tutors are delivering a Postgraduate Diploma in Enterprise Management and a Chartered Management Institute (CMI) Executive Diploma in Management, working with the EuroJordan Advanced Business Institute (EJABI).

The qualifications are designed to help senior managers within the country’s growing SME base develop their skills, and will also give them eligibility for CMI membership.

Durham beat off competition from business schools across Europe to win the tender. Commenting on the new contract, Dr Bill Snaith, director of programmes, said: “SME development is a key priority for the Jordanians who realise that they must up-skill their managers if they are to survive the huge economic changes taking place in the country and increase export capability to Europe.

“We have run CMI qualifications alongside our own executive education postgraduate diplomas for a number of years. This contract will hopefully be the start of a longer-term programme to promote professional qualifications across the middle-east region. “Students will be able to progress directly onto the final stage of the School’s new MA in Enterprise Management.”

Dr Snaith’s team will also be responsible for delivering the second contract, which has been awarded by the Government of Gibraltar and Investors in People UK, to develop IiP accreditation in Gibraltar.

The two-year, £150,000 contract will see members of the Durham Business School team working as the contracted representatives of the Gibraltar government to develop and implement the IiP standard within the territory. This work builds on a long relationship with the government and public-private sector bodies in Gibraltar.
