National Student Employment Week Web Update

(4 May 2005)

National Student Employment week ran from 28th February to 4th March 2005. During this week students from all over the country were encouraged to sign up on the www.morethanwork.net web site (the web site for all working students) by the incentive of winning an iPod.

We are pleased to announce that Durham University had the most students sign up on this website during this week and that Karen Slack from St.Hild and St.Bede College won the iPod.

Other Events during this week included several opportunities for students to meet employers offering local part tome work at the Job Shop and a Summer jobs fair at Newcastle.

Summer Work

In the period between students finishing their exams and the end of term we will be inundated by students who are looking for work in this short period of time. Last year we saw 66 people in the Job Shop in April 2004, 102 in May and 188 in June. We also had 1232 hits on our website in April jumping to 2506 and 2157 hits in May and June respectively.

If you or your department have any filing, clearing out, mailings, photocopying, telephoning or any other odd jobs to do at this time please consider employing a student to do them.
