Launch of the Northumbrian Water University Boat Race

Wednesday 20 April 2005 will launch the countdown to the annual Northumbrian Water University Boat race on the river Tyne, where Durham University take on Newcastle University.

The launch of this year’s Boat Race will take place at the Baltic Square in Gateshead. At noon, according to Boat Race tradition, Henry Pelly, President of Newcastle University Boat Club, will make the formal challenge to Durham's President, Maggie Paxton, to compete in the race.
