Business advice on offer from MBA students

(3 March 2005)

Companies in the region have the chance to benefit from the skills and knowledge of an experienced MBA student at Durham Business School.

Durham, one of the top business schools in the UK, is looking for suitable business partners who are seeking a fresh, external view on a key business issue or an opportunity to outsource a project.

Businesses which take up the offer will gain access to an international cohort of experienced MBA students and have the chance to reap the benefits of a professional, customer-friendly service, which is underpinned by a breadth of knowledge, experience and skills.

At the same time, businesses have the chance to contribute to the development of some enthusiastic and intelligent individuals.

David Copus, business liaison manager at Durham Business School, said: “All of Durham Business School’s programmes are designed to provide students with as many real-life business experiences as possible. Students benefit immensely from an opportunity to work alongside a business but the benefits are definitely two-way.

“It is worth remembering that an MBA is not simply a post graduate qualification but aimed at people who already have a significant amount of experience. Businesses which partner with an MBA student are therefore getting input from a motivated and talented manager who is, in turn, supported by an experienced member of staff here at the Business School. “Organisations also have the chance to evaluate potential employees, create new networks and shape the development of future senior managers.”

In past years, students have helped businesses with projects as diverse as evaluating SME business models within the manufacturing sector; mapping a business evolution model; buying & selling professional services; addressing corporate social responsibility and buying brand loyalty.

Businesses are requested to reimburse reasonable expenses and provide a mentor to work with students.

Ideas for projects must be with Durham Business School’s business liaison manager, David Copus, by March 23.
