Last call for applications for DUCK funds

(2 March 2005)

Students have always been known for their enthusiasm for charitable RAG (Raise And Give) efforts and nowhere is this fundraising capability better practised than at Durham University.

DUCK (Durham University Charities Kommittee) has had a fantastically successful year, raising many thousands through an imaginative range of events including Stars in Their Eyes, Back to School parties and Slave Auctions.

The reason behind all this fun and hard work is to raise money for worthwhile causes. DUCK looks to be raising even more money than last year, when a record-breaking £150,000 was donated to needy charities.

DUCK supports local charitable groups, national charities, and even international charities, particularly those with a Durham link. Organisers are unable to make grants to individuals or to groups that exist solely to further religious beliefs. Most grants are in the £250 - £500 range, but sometimes larger amounts can be awarded for exceptionally strong applications.

The deadline is fast approaching, so local groups are being encouraged to act now to apply for a share the proceeds of the fundraising efforts of Durham University students.

Application forms can be downloaded from the DUCK web site, www.duck.dsu.org.uk, or requested by emailing duck@dsu.org.ukor by phoning 0191 334 1797.

Completed forms must be received at the DUCK office Dunelm House, New Elvet, DURHAM DH1 3AN by no later than 15th March.
