£10 m Postgraduate Housing Development in Durham

(18 February 2005)

Three Rivers Housing Group is working with the University to develop high quality modern accommodation for postgraduate students in the city.

Peter Robinson, Director of Estates and Buildings for the university said, “We felt that an organisation with a good housing track record such as Three Rivers was ideal in helping us provide good accommodation for our growing numbers of postgraduate students. Many of them are mature students who have young families and therefore, have specific housing needs which Three Rivers has experience in providing.”

In financing the £10 m development, Three Rivers has formed a formal partnership with Laing O’Rourke Portfolio Projects, a subsidiary of national construction company Laing O’Rourke.

The two organisations set up Kepier Homes to build a range of 70 one, two and tree bedroom family flats and a further 48 single bedrooms in Dryburn, one of the city’s prime sites earmarked for student accommodation.

Martin Knowles, Chief Executive of Three Rivers, said “This is an extremely exciting project for us. We are delighted that through Kepier Homes, we are able to tap into the skills and experience of the people from the different organisations involved to launch a project as significant as this.”

Work on the site in Dryburn has started and the homes are due to be open as accommodation from September this year.
