Greek Gods and Gremlins at the Old Fulling Mill Museum

(10 February 2005)

This weekend the University of Durham’s Old Fulling Mill Museum will host an innovative Greek drama workshop.

The event will take place on Saturday 12 February from 12.30 until 2.30 pm.

This event, based around Aristophanes’ play ‘The Birds’, will give youngsters a chance to make masks and act out the roles of Greek gods and ancient birds. Perhaps surprisingly, they will also have the opportunity to discover the link between this ancient play and the popular film ‘Gremlins 2’.

Craig Barclay, Curator of University Museums said:” This dramatic hands-on event is aimed at younger visitors aged between six and thirteen. We can promise an action packed afternoon that combines hands-on activities with an opportunity to test your acting skills. Who knows, maybe we will discover the next Gwyneth Paltrow or Johnny Depp!”

The workshop is designed for young people aged between 6 and 13. A small charge of £2 per head covers entry to the museum, as well as all materials and activities.
