Road works will impact on travel to and from Queen’s Campus, Stockton

Staff and students who travel to Queens Campus Stockton on a regular basis will not be surprised to hear that the ongoing road works which have been disrupting access to the Teesdale Business Park site via the Riverside Road will continue for some time.

The first stage of necessary improvements to roads infrastructure around the area has almost been completed which is good news. However, the bad news is that stage two will be starting shortly, and this will probably lead to much more disruption.

The second stage means the closure of two major sections of road for travellers into Queens Campus. They are largely being done together to cut down the total time of closure.

From 4 February 2005, the section of the road to Portrack from the Church Road roundabout up to the Reg Vardy roundabout will be closed for four months.

Adding to the difficulty of getting into Teesdale, from 18 February 2005, the Princess of Wales Bridge will be closed for vehicles trying to make a left hand turn onto it from Riverside Road, and a right hand turn from it. This will be closed for three months.

The other side of the Bridge, the side on which you can make a left hand turn onto Riverside Road, will stay open for longer, but will also have to be closed in due course. Luckily the Bridge will remain accessible for pedestrians.

The only ways to get to the University Campus from the South will be via Victoria Bridge or via the A66 at Teesside Retail Park.

Understandably, the road works will lead to much inconvenience and delay, but hopefully the long term benefits of the North Shore Development, for which these road works are taking place, will far outweigh the temporary drawbacks. This major project could mean many new opportunities for the University. It will enable us to expand and strengthen the link between education and economic development.
