The Best Office View in the North Belongs to Bob Johnson

(25 January 2005)

The most inspiring office view in the North can officially be found in the workplace of Dr Bob Johnson, lecturer of Maths at the university.

After winning the regional heats, organised in conjunction with The Journal, this spectacular view of the cathedral has also reached the finals of the national competition to find the most stunning office view in the country.

Initiated by Intel, the competition was launched last year to promote its Centrino mobile technology, which allows people to access the internet wherever they work, in a bid to highlight the advantages of mobile working.

The reason for choosing Dr Johnson’s spectacular view in particular, according to Intel spokesperson, Winston Eavis, was that it “echoed the area and put a positive light on the region.” Intel felt that it “blended the old with the new.”

Dr Johnson, 60, a married father-of-two and grandfather-of-four was delighted with winning, “I took a nice photo out of my window and entered in the competition. It’s a good surprise to win.” Not only did this give him the distinction of having the nicest workplace setting in the North, but he also received a digital camera and hot-air balloon ride.

The winner of the national competition will be announced in a few weeks time.
