“Mr Chancellor �” : display depicts Peter Ustinov in University role

A display of photographs and other material relating to the late Sir Peter Ustinov as Chancellor of the University of Durham is on show in the University Library on Palace Green in Durham between 8-21 November.

The photographs include scenes from formal and informal events from his 12 years as the ceremonial head of the University. Among them are a meeting with the Prince of Wales to confer on him a Doctor of Civil Law degree, a visit to the police scientific training facility at Harperley Hall near Crook, and the day he got a Geordie lesson in the University’s Language Centre.

The display is open to the public during normal hours at the Palace Green section of the Library (between the Castle and Cathedral) : Mon-Thur 9am-9pm, Fri 9am-5pm, Sat 10am-5pm, Sun 2pm-9pm.

A service to celebrate the life of Sir Peter Ustinov as Chancellor of the University from 1992 to 2004, is being held in Durham Cathedral on 10 November at 2.30pm. The service is also open to the public. People are asked to be in their seats by 2.10 pm. Admission is from 1.00 pm, via the Galilee Chapel at the west end of the Cathedral.
