Get your collar felt and make some slippers at the Old Fulling Mill!

(8 October 2004)

Two events coming up at the University of Durham’s Museum of Archaeology at The Old Fulling Mill provide opportunities for some hands on crime investigation and a chance to make a unique Christmas gift.

The historic mill on the riverside below the Cathedral is an ideal location for a spot of crime scene investigation and a children’s craft workshop.

Forensics at the Mill is the first event taking place at the Museum of Archaeology from 2.00 p.m.-4.00 p.m. on Saturday 16th October when visitors will be able to join Durham Constabulary scene of crime investigators as they demonstrate how to beat the burglar and catch the criminal.

Using the latest investigative techniques and state of the art scientific aids, the “crime busters” from Durham Police will be literally following the footsteps of the “criminals” from The Shoes from the museum’s recent “Step On It” exhibition of footwear.

A half-term holiday treat for children is in store on Tuesday 26th October (11.00a.m.-1.00 p.m.) as part of “The Big Draw” campaign for drawing with a children’s felt slipper making workshop.

This two-hour craft session will encourage youngsters to draw, design and make slippers for Christmas.

Places at both events are limited, so booking is essential. Contact the Old Fulling Mill Museum of Archaeology, The Banks, Durham City DH1 3EB, Tel 0191 334 1823.
