Skulls and skeletons skulduggery!

(8 October 2004)

As 31st October approaches there’s a chance for local youngsters to get into the Halloween mood with a hands on search for skulls and skeletons led by a team of anthropologists from the University of Durham.

“Skulls and Skeletons Skulduggery” is the title of fun event for all the family which is taking place at the University’s Queen’s Campus in Stockton on Saturday 16th October.

The campus is again holding a Family Learning Weekend and youngsters and adults are being invited to join real anthropologists and search for bones and other things.

Emma Heslop and Steve Leech are two postgraduate research assistants from the Department of Health and Human Sciences and they will be giving expert advice on how to search for and identify buried bones.

This fascinating, free event for all the family is open to youngsters aged from 4-16. All children must be accompanied by an adult and organisers are expecting up to 100 visitors between 10.00a.m. and 12 noon.

The event has already been publicised among local community groups and children’s’ organisations. Anyone interested in joining in the fun and hopefully winning a prize is asked to turn up at the University Campus on the Thornaby side of the River Tees near the Tees Barrage.
