Prominent DUCK organiser dies in road accident

(25 August 2004)

A Hatfield College student, Hazel Scott Aiton, a leading participant in the DUCK student charity fund-raising activities, has died in a road accident near her home in the Scottish borders.

Hazel (21) of Earlston, Berwickshire, who planned to pursue charity work in Africa after university, had recently returned from Namibia, where she worked at a school for rural children. She was one of several students who have undertaken the ascent of Mount Kilimanjaro to raise money and personally secured the remarkable sum of £6,000 for Save the Children. Hazel was a 3rd year undergraduate studying Philosophy, Vice-President of the Hatfield Lion Theatre Company and a rower. There will be a memorial event in College early in the Michaelmas term after consultation with Hazel's family and friends.
