Appointment of Chancellor

(10 June 2004)

Suggestions are invited from members of the University for the appointment of a successor to Sir Peter Ustinov as Chancellor of the University and may be made using a confidential process via the University's Website.

The Website includes a list of qualities to be looked for in a Chancellor. This list is a working document, informed by the role played by previous Chancellors, which may be developed further.

The closing date for suggestions is Tuesday 31 August 2004.

Following approval of this process by Senate and Council at their meetings on 18 May 2004 and 2 June 2004 respectively, suggestions will be submitted to a Joint Committee of Senate and Council which is being set up to recommend the nomination to be submitted to a joint meeting of the two bodies and thence to Convocation for formal appointment.

It is essential that no approach is made to the person whose name you suggest. This is a matter which will be dealt with by the Joint Committee if a recommendation is taken forward.
