Cranmer Consolidation

The Principal of St John's College Durham, Professor Stephen Sykes, said today that the appointment of a new Warden of Cranmer Hall had become a top priority following today's announcement that Dr Steve Croft, who has held the post since 1996, is to become Archbishops Missioner.

We are most grateful to Steve and offer him our warmest congratulations as we now turn our attentions to filling this important post within St John's College, said Bishop Sykes today.

Cranmer Hall, one of two halls in St John's, trains men and women for the full-time ministry in the Church of England, as well as offering an increasingly wide-range of post-graduate and in-service training opportunities for clergy and laity.

Dr Croft said, "It has been a privilege to have been part of a collaborative staff team, and to have had so many gifted students from all parts of the UK and abroad, and from all traditions."

He added that he and his family were sad to be leaving Durham, but he had every confidence for the future.

The outgoing Warden has also overseen a complete revision of all courses and training programmes, as well as the foundation of an MA in Theology and Ministry and a soon to be introduced DMin.

"Cranmer Hall has responded well to the change in culture of theological training and will continue to do so," said Bishop Sykes.
