Celtic Myth

(21 May 2004)

St. John's College, Durham has organised a national conference, planned for September, which will investigate the myth of the Celtic Church.

The four-day event, which begins on September 20th, has attracted some keynote speakers. It also includes a day-visit to Holy Island where participants will hear about modern ministry on Lindisfarne.

'The existence and influence of a Celtic church has attracted increasing debate over the years with widely differing views being expressed,' says Dr.Gavin Wakefield who has planned the Conference.

We will be based just a few metres from the final resting places of Bede, Cuthbert and Oswald in the friendly setting of St.John's College, added Dr.Wakefield, who will also speak at the Conference.

One of the key aims of the Conference is to discuss how the Celts can help the modern Church in its mission in 21st Century Britain.

Other keynote speakers include David Clark, Liz Hoare, Brother Damian SSF and Alan Bartlett.

The four-day conference costs just £193 and is open to all.

Gavin Wakefield is available for interview.
