Student Parking Consultation
(11 May 2004)
The University of Durham’s Colleges Division is exploring issues of student parking in consultation with Durham Students’ Union and student representatives.
The University tries to discourage students from bringing cars to Durham because it is a small City and the Colleges Division have been looking at parking and traffic issues over a number of years in consultation with the local authorities.
Professor Tim Burt, Dean of Colleges and Student Support said:”We are exploring a set of proposals to discourage some of the present car usage in central areas of Durham by extending our current licensing system. The ongoing discussions provide an opportunity for the views of student representatives to be fully incorporated in the process”.
The discussions have not led to any firm proposals being submitted formally to the university but it is hoped that agreement can be reached on an appropriate way forward.
