University mourns death of student

Staff and students in the University are shocked and saddened to learn of the sudden death of Japanese exchange student, 21-year old Ryoko Shinoda.

Ryoko, who was a member of St Mary’s College, was found dead in the River Wear on Sunday morning. She was an exchange student in the Department of East Asian Studies.

Messages of sympathy are going from the College and from the Vice-Chancellor on behalf of the University.
