Charity basketball sets world record

(10 March 2004)

Durham University Basketball held a twelve hour basketball shoot out outside Tesco in Durham setting a new world record and raising money for charity in the process.

The fundraising event took place over twelve hours between 9am and 9pm on Saturday 6 March with twenty four players and the same number of officials involved.

The University set a new world record (to be ratified by Guinness World Records) scoring 16,391 baskets at a shooting accuracy of 89.7. This meant that a basket was scored every 2.7 seconds.

The players raised over £1,000 during the day, half of which will go to the charity Children of the North East.
