(12 March 2004)

The University of Durham will welcome civic dignitaries and officers to the first Stockton Heritage Day to showcase the Borough’s landmarks.

Professor Anstee, Pro-Vice-Chancellor & Sub-Warden will welcome the group which will include guests from Tees Valley, County Durham and North Yorkshire at a reception at the University of Durham, Queen’s Campus, Stockton, on Wednesday, 17th March.

The Mayor of Stockton, Councillor Ann Cains said: “The day will take in some of the Borough’s most famous landmarks and our visitors will learn not only about our history but also see some of the pioneering developments which are key to our future”.

The heritage tour will visit the Wolfson Research Institute, Tees Barrage and Whitewater Course and a guided tour of Green Dragon Museum. The group will then make its way to the Town Hall for a short tour and history of the building followed by a river cruise aboard the Teesside Princess where Stockton Council’s regeneration officers will talk about the developments along the River Tees.

Professor John Anstee said: “In reflecting on the breadth of initiatives taking place across the University, we hope to show how our Queen’s Campus provides access for the Tees Valley to the resources of the University as a whole, and to show how our Queen’s Campus is an engine for regeneration on Teesside”.
