Charities to share in DUCK’s £100,000 fundraising effort
(22 January 2004)
Good causes are invited to share in Durham Universities Charities Kommittee’s (DUCK) most successful fundraising year.
Having already raised over £70,000 through students fundraising events and DUCK are well on their way to beating their end of academic year target of £100,000.
Local, national and international charities can apply for a share of the funds and it is hoped the money can benefit as many groups as possible.
Tim Guinan, DUCK Manager said, “Any charity or voluntary group is welcome to apply for funds. We have made donations to all kinds of organisations ranging from a baby care unit in Middlesbrough to a burns unit in Malawi. This year DUCK will raise more money than ever before through a variety of student led schemes.”
DUCK has been involved with a range of activities to raise money for good causes including the biggest duck race in the UK this year, hitchhikes to Dublin, Amsterdam and Paris and in the summer twenty-five students will set out to climb Mount Kilimanjaro aiming to raise over £25,000 for Save the Children.
To apply for funds, organisations need to fill an application form which can be obtained from the DUCK website, www.duck.dsu.org.uk or by writing to: DUCK Office, Dunelm House, New Elvet, Durham, DH1 3AN or by telephoning the DUCK office on 0191 334 1797.
Applications must be made by 1 March. All applications are carefully considered, but DUCK regrets that it is unable to support individuals.
