Lava debate is a web favourite

A worldwide debate over research by Durham geologist Dr Gillian Foulger is featured by the prestigious US publication Science in its latest "Best of the Web" listings.

Dr Foulger and fellow researchers have made observations that challenge previous understanding about plumes of hot rock that were thought to rise from deep inside the Earth and break through the surface in the form of geysers, hot springs and volcanoes.
