Meat with a point of view

(16 October 2003)

Martyn Evans, Principal of John Snow College and Professor of Humanities in Medicine in the School for Health at the University of Durham gives his inaugural lecture, ‘Meat with a Point of View,’ on Monday 20 October.

Professor Evans who teaches on the Medicine programme at Queen’s Campus will reflect on how biologically speaking we are all made of meat, but we are also meat with our own experiences - meat with a point of view.

He will consider a range of philosophical questions which consequently arise in modern technological medicine, and he will discuss the question of how patients and medical practitioners alike might benefit, if humanities perspectives are reflected within medical education and practice.

The lecture will be held at 5.30 p.m. on Monday 20 October in the Ebsworth Building (Room D003) at the University of Durham, Queen's Campus, Stockton. The lecture is open to the public as well as members of the University.
