Arriva to provide inter-campus bus service
(6 October 2003)
Arriva will continue to operate the inter-campus bus service for the next three years between Durham and Stockton. The service re-commences on Monday 6th October 2003.
The service provides staff and students with free travel on the X11 and a discounted price on the X1, X2, 235 & 236 public services when a campus ID card is produced.
Last year's usage figures have shown that the service is extremely well used among staff and students, over 16,000 journeys being made. The free X11 service which operates during term time carried a total of 9330 passengers (single journeys). The Arriva public services that staff and students used at a discounted rate showed that a total of 6910 single journeys were made.
Staff and students can purchase single voucher tickets for the public services from either Central Administration in the Holliday Building at Queen's Campus or from the driver for £1.50. Students can purchase vouchers in books of 10 for £10 from DSU or from John Snow and George Stephenson JCRs.
The contract was awarded as a result of a competitive tendering process this Summer.
