Students work with Durham City Council

(4 June 2003)

Student Community Action are hoping to create a dynamic partnership with Durham City Council, which will allow students to contribute to the built environment of a city where most of them spend at least three years of their lives.

The partnership begins with two projects planned for the period following the end of examinations.

The first project is a litterpick around the area of the viaduct and Hawthorn Terrace once exams are over. If successful another one will be organised for early next term.

The second project involves the landscaping of a small area by Milburngate Bridge. The area next to the slip road leading to bowling alley is currently concreted because of a vermin problem. The students and the Council will work together in designing and implementing a happy medium between overgrown vegetation and concrete.
