Endeavour Orchestra play aboard HM Bark Endeavour

(3 June 2003)

The Endeavour Orchestra will be boarding H M Bark Endeavour at Castlegate Quay, Stockton this Sunday (8 June) to perform aboard their namesake.

The Endeavour Orchestra and Chamber Choir based at the University of Durham Queen’s Campus, Stockton were established two years ago by students Helen Mann and Hannah Elliott, who will be performing in the orchestra and choir for the last time on 8th June as they are both set to graduate this summer.

Helen said, “Hannah and I set up the orchestra and choir because we both love music and there were no music societies at Queen’s Campus before we arrived. We adopted the name “Endeavour” because it represented something important to the area. I used to walk past H M Bark Endeavour on my way into Stockton and I thought that it was a perfect name, especially as some of our orchestra aren’t students but local residents”.

Helen and Hannah have achieved great success and recently the orchestra and choir performed their annual concert at Durham Cathedral.

Helen commented:” Where better to play my final Endeavour Orchestra concert than onboard the ship we were named after!! It’s going to be a memorable night for the students and the local community”.

The Endeavour Orchestra will be performing onboard H M Bark Endeavour on Sunday 8th June at 7.30pm. The concert is FREE but all donations made on the night of the concert will go to H M Bark Endeavour, which is a registered charity.

The orchestra would also like to invite members of the community who play wind/brass or stringed instruments to become a regular member of the orchestra. Rehearsals are held on Monday evenings during University term-time from 6-8pm in the Holliday Building at Queen’s Campus, Stockton.
