New Registrar joins the University
(28 March 2003)
Lee Sanders took up his post as Registrar and Secretary in the University on Monday 24 March. He has announced changes in the structure of the administration.
"I am delighted to have joined the University this week as Registrar and Secretary. I look forward to meeting more colleagues over the next few weeks, particularly during visits to departments and colleges which are taking place in the near future. I would like to take this opportunity to inform you of some of the changes that I am making in the central administration.
Nicola Parker will have additional responsibilities as my deputy and will have the new title of Academic Registrar and Deputy Secretary. Beatrice Ollerenshaw has been appointed Deputy Academic Registrar.
A new section has been created within the Academic Office, which includes the transfer of the Schools Liaison Office from Corporate Communications, and which brings together widening participation and access, student recruitment, admissions and student financial support. Matthew Andrews has been appointed as head of this new Recruitment and Admissions section. The aim is to provide an integrated recruitment and admissions service in line with best practice.
A new department of Corporate Development and Communications has been created from the Development and Alumni Relations Office, International Office, and Public Relations Office. Scott Hayter has been appointed Director of Corporate Development and Communications. This office will focus on supporting the University's inter-connected strategies for fund raising, communications and corporate marketing.
The Research and Economic Development Support Service (REDSS) is now a sizable section of the administration and will report directly to me. The White Paper re-emphasises the importance of research and out-reach and we need a focused team to support our strategy in these areas. Rob Statham will continue as head of this section.
I hope that these changes will ensure that the organisation of service departments is well-structured to support the University Strategy, particularly in light of the recent White Paper. Synergies that have been successfully built up between the sections will remain, with staff working together as necessary. Organisational charts for these areas are available online.
I am sure colleagues across the University would join me in thanking Nicola Parker for all her hard work as Acting Registrar during a busy time in the University's history."
