Collingwood student awarded bursary

(17 February 2003)

First-year Chemistry student Joanna Pownall (Collingwood College) has been awarded the AstraZeneca Chemistry Bursary.

The AstraZeneca Chemistry Bursary scheme provides 50 bursaries each year at 23 UK Chemistry departments. Students get an award of £1000 for each year of their studies and the offer of placement work with AstraZeneca. To qualify for the award students must have an A or B at A-level Chemistry, be registered for a BSc or MChem in Chemistry and maintain a performance of 2:1 or above.

Joanna, who came to the University from The National School and The National VI Form Centre in Hucknall, Nottingham, was selected for the award by the Durham Chemistry Teaching and Learning Committee on the basis of her exam performance in the first year Progress Tests in January.

Further details of the scheme can be found on AstraZeneca's website.
