Law Lecturer's report on Increasing Opportunities for Muslims

A Durham University Law Lecturer and specialist in international human rights has highlighted barriers for Muslim communities in Britain in education, housing and other important areas of life.

Tufyal Choudhury, in a paper for the Open Society Institute looks at ways of creating more opportunities for Muslims to take a wider stake in the wider society, including work in the justice, health and education services.

Among the report's suggestions is one for the teaching of Arabic as an extra modern language in schools as a way to spread awareness, and break down discrimination.

Mr Choudhury is a member of the advisory committee for the Institute of Public Policy Research project on Race & Governance in the UK and earlier this year briefed the Cabinet Office Performance and Innovation Unit on ethnic minorities and UK discrimination law. (PR1058)
