Future academic organisation on agenda of Council

University Council will be considering the Vice-Chancellor's Paper on the future academic organisation of the University at its meeting tomorrow (Tuesday 28 May).

Senate also considered this paper on 14 May and its recommendations to Council include:

(a) the adoption of a model of three-year departmental and financial and operational plans with effect from 2002/03.

(b) that a University Executive Committee be established as a sub-committee of Senate and Council, and that the functions carried out by Resource Planning Group and its sub-committeess be transferred to the University Executive Committee with effect from the new academic year.

(c) that the faculty structure be revised. See outline faculty structure.

(d) that the role of Deans should be revised and a new appointments procedure for Deans should be introduced.

(e) that the role and title for Heads of Departments should be revised as outlined in the paper.

(f) that a Postgraduate Dean should be appointed.
