Durham University Business School

Durham Business School is to be re-branded as Durham University Business School to better align it with its parent organisation Durham University - one of the world’s leading research and teaching universities.

The re-branding will take place immediately following an extensive and thorough internal and external consultation.

Durham University Business School is among the leading business schools in the world with high demand for its graduates. The triple-accredited school attracts students from 130 nations and has been praised for its pioneering links with business and employability, such as the KPMG School Leavers’ programme. Durham is ranked a world top 20 university by leading recruiters for the quality of its graduates in the 2012 QS World University Rankings.

The Leading Edge personal development programme and international study options like the Sri Lanka development project are key features of its full-time MBA programme. Its Executive MBA attracts candidates from the world’s leading companies and around 700 students are currently undertaking the Global MBA, recently ranked 7th in the distance learning rankings by QS.

The school offers a wide-range of business-relevant academic undergraduate and postgraduate programmes from accountancy and finance degrees, management, marketing and economics as well as professionally recognised programmes by professional bodies such as the CFA and CIM. Teaching is split between Durham city and the University’s vibrant Queen’s Campus in Stockton-on-Tees.

The School’s central site at Mill Hill Lane in Durham is currently undergoing a £16.6m redevelopment, with the School temporarily housed in historic Ushaw College on the outskirts of the city. The new building, due to open in autumn 2013, will provide state-of-the-art facilities for
students including a new interactive lecture theatre, break out spaces and more teaching spaces.

A sample of recent rankings results by Durham University Business School:

  • 3rd globally for ‘student quality’ and 12th in the UK and 9th in Europe for ‘personal development and education experience’ in the Economist Which MBA? Ranking (October 2012)
  • 13th in the UK, including 8th in the UK for career progress by the Financial Times Global MBA ranking (January 2012)

Professor Rob Dixon, Durham University Business School Dean said: “Durham University Business School is a dynamic and evolving institution. With increasing international links and investment in our faculty, facilities and estate, we will further enhance our reputation as a world-class business education destination.

“This is a very exciting time for the school with the redevelopment of the school’s main building in Durham and the launch of new programmes and business links.

“All our programmes are structured to promote independent critical thinking. This is complemented by our collegiate system, which enables students to develop key life skills through sport, the arts and volunteering, helping to produce well-rounded and versatile graduates who are sought after by the world’s leading employers.”
