History student’s national recognition

A Durham student from Tamworth has won himself a place in the history books after gaining second place in a national undergraduate competition.

Matthew Greenhall from Hockley, who is currently studying Regional History, received a highly commended in the Undergraduate Dissertation of the Year competition. Matthew’s dissertation entitled ‘From Cattle to Claret: Scottish economic influence in northeast England 1660-1750’ was written as part of his first class honours degree. He is currently studying for his masters degree at Durham where he intends to begin a three years PhD course later this year. The competition was held by the Royal Historical Society and History Today magazine and the award was made at the Longman History Today annual party held recently in London. Matthew’s dissertation will be published as an article in a future issue of History Today magazine.
