Biography

Gary has worked as a freelance saxophonist since 1970 fluctuating between professional and semi-professional status according to market demand.  He has received critical acclaim in the jazz press, national newspapers and BBC radio.  He has worked as a session musician with many pop, rock and funk bands but his longest association has been with two of composer Mike Westbrrok's bands.  Gary has a degree in Philosophy and is the former Head of Chemistry at Southampton City College; he has taught in the state system since 1986.  A co-founder of a number of musicians collectives, recently he has co-ordinated jazz education workshops for a number of organisations including 'The Music Performance Education Group' that he co-founded.
